As you may already know, canvas™ is an enthusiastic supporter of Aid to Artisans, a non-profit organization which operates around the world in developing countries. Many of the products that we feature in canvas shops and on our website are sourced through ATA, and we give back 10% of our profits to this worthy organization. With this in mind, we'd like you to take a look at Aid to Artisans when considering your year-end donations to charitable organizations.
ATA creates opportunities for low-income artisans around the world to build profitable businesses inspired by handmade traditions. It helps artisans gain access to new markets and offers business training, introduces eco-effective processes and promotes design innovation through a network of partners to promote sustainable growth and community well-being.
Handcraft is the second largest section of rural employment after agriculture in developing countries. It is one of the most important economic development drivers in these countries. In the past ten years Aid to Artisans has worked in over 40 developing countries and provided assistance to over 125,000 artisans, 70% of whom were women. In some cases, ATA programs have enabled artisans to earn as much as four times their country's per capita income.
Why Your Help Is Needed. You will not be surprised to learn that government budgets for supporting organizations like ATA have been cut significantly over the last several years, so ATA is in need of private donations more than ever. At this time of year when we give thanks for our many blessings, it is a great time to help others in need. Your gift to ATA will be used to help low-income people help themselves.
